What is Vajrayana?

The Diamond Vehicle

Vajrayana Buddhism (Tibetan Buddhism) is a powerful and transformative spiritual path that offers a unique and radical approach to awakening: “Enlightenment in one lifetime.”

Its teachings are both beautiful and mystical, inviting practitioners to dive deep into their own inner world and uncover the wisdom that lies within. At its core, Vajrayana Buddhism emphasizes the practice of meditative awareness and the cultivation of bodhicitta, loving kindness and compassion for all beings, which leads to wisdom as an understanding of the true nature of reality.

One of the most inspiring aspects of Vajrayana Buddhism is its emphasis on compassion (karuna) and the belief that all beings have the potential to achieve enlightenment. This path recognizes that all beings are inherently good, and that the obstacles to our awakening can be overcome through diligent practice and the guidance of a qualified teacher. By embracing the principles of Vajrayana Buddhism, we can learn to live with greater awareness, compassion, and wisdom, ultimately finding liberation from the unsatisfactory happenings that occur in each of our lives.

Four Vajra Points of Siam Vajrayana

Enlightenment

The Buddha taught many paths to enlightenment, and within the world of Vajrayana, taking fruition as the path is its most profound teaching. Through direct introduction to our basic nature of mind, known as our Buddhanature, a trained lama or guru can assist us in developing a true realization of our enlightened nature through the practice of Ati Yoga, also referred to as Dzogchen. Dzogchen is considered to be "the foremost of majestic transmissions of definitive truth" not only among all Buddhist paths of realization but also among the various spiritual methods of other traditions. Through the sacred practice of Dzogchen meditation, Yuthok achieved Rainbow Body enlightenment. Trained Dzogchenpa Ngakpas of Siam Vajrayana will teach Dzogchen to a select Thai audience for the first time in Thai Buddhist history, sharing the highest path of wisdom as taught by the Buddha for those seeking their innate Buddha nature.

Ngakpa Culture

Ngakpa: A Practitioner of Vajrayana Buddhism who has received Samaya precepts from their Guru. Also known throughout Tibetan Buddhism history as the Yogis and Yoginis who have attained enlightenment through potent Tantric methods for the benefit of all beings.

Through the Siam Vajrayana Foundation, the first Ngakpa community for lay and yogic practitioners has been established in 2023, under the auspicious guidance of Dr. Nida Chenagtsang and Tulku Rigzin Kunsang Dorje Rinpoche. As of September 2023, there are eight officially ordained Ngakpas in Siam Vajrayana, the first in Thai history.

Healing & Well-Being

The Siam Vajrayana Temple is dedicated to sharing the profound wisdom of the Medicine Buddha Lineage with the Thai world and its international community.

Rooted in the ancient healing practices of Tibetan Buddhism, this lineage offers a holistic approach to well-being, combining spiritual and physical healing techniques. As our temple embraces this tradition, it becomes a sacred space where the Thai community can learn the invaluable teachings of the Medicine Buddha Lineage, fostering physical health and spiritual harmony.

Yuthok Yonten Gonpo the Younger is seen as the emanation of the Medicine Buddha. Through his understanding of dharma, he attained supreme enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. His life teachings and methods of healing the entirety of one’s being will be taught by Siam Vajrayana.

Tara Arts & Crafts

Siam Vajrayana will be among the first Buddhist temples to masterfully showcase Thai art and culture alongside Vajrayana traditions from Tibet, India, and Nepal.

Within its sacred confines, a prestigious art school arises, set to inspire not only Buddhists but the entire global community. It pays homage to Thailand's rich heritage while serving as a symbol of cultural exchange, where diverse traditions converge to create something extraordinary. Established Ngakpa artisans and designers will teach skillful methods to awaken beings through Dharma Art.

The temple's art serves to curate a higher purpose: “Liberation Upon Seeing”—educating through visual arts about the paths to enlightenment.

Yuthok Yonten Gonpo the Younger

The Medicine Buddha Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism

Yuthok Yonten Gonpo the Younger (1126-1202) is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism and traditional Tibetan medicine. He was a physician and spiritual teacher who lived in the 12th century and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of Tibetan medicine. Yuthok Yonten Gonpo was not only a skilled healer, but also a realized practitioner who attained the rainbow body, the ultimate expression of the realization of the nature of mind. His teachings later became known as the Yuthok Nyingthig.

Dzogchen: Natural Great Perfection

Embodying Our Innate Buddhanature

Dzogchen (Ati Yoga) meditation is known as one of the most profound and transformative practices within Vajrayana Buddhism. It emphasizes the direct recognition of the true nature of mind, which is considered to be inherently pure and free from all defilement. Through this practice, we learn to rest in this very moment, free from distractions of past, future, or present. In Trekcho, we cut through all conceptual elaborations and realize our minds as non-dual awareness, spacious, luminous, and equanimous.

“One moment of awareness is one moment of enlightenment.”

The practice of Dzogchen meditation is to remain in our recognition of non-dual awareness, in which we transcend dualistic thinking and come to see our inner and outer world and all beings as interconnected. This state of awareness is said to be the Buddhanature of mind and the gateway to enlightenment. It’s been shown that in the past and present, masters and even lay practitioners of this practice can attain enlightenment in one lifetime. Dzogchen is transformative in our understanding of ourselves and the world, allowing us to develop greater compassion, wisdom, and inner peace. We aspire in the footsteps of our precious Dzogchen Lamas who have come before us and who have attained Rainbow Body enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.

The Fruition

“Attain the perfectly and fully awakened state of a Buddha. The method to transform this human body into rainbow light at the moment of death is only through recognizing and realizing our Buddha nature; there is no other possible way.”

— Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche
